Spray foam removal in Romford & Havering
Postcodes: RM1–RM3, RM11–RM14 · Local planning authority: London Borough of Havering
Havering is London's most easterly borough, with a lot of 20th-century family housing across Romford, Hornchurch, Upminster and Harold Wood – plus one of the most unusual housing areas in London.
Gidea Park: take extra care
The Gidea Park Conservation Area protects the houses built for the 1911 Romford Garden Suburb exhibition (and a later 1934 exhibition), designed by a large group of Arts and Crafts-era architects. Some of these houses are listed. RICS advises that spray foam should never be installed in a listed building without consent, and removal can also damage historic fabric. If you live in Gidea Park, speak to Havering's planning team and use a specialist with heritage experience.
Elsewhere in Havering
- Larger plots, larger roofs. Detached and semi-detached houses in Upminster, Emerson Park and Hornchurch often have big roof areas, which drives the cost. Get the sloped area measured on site.
- Bungalows. Havering has many bungalows, where the loft is a large single-storey roof. Access is usually easy, but the area to strip can be bigger than people expect.
- Sale deadlines. Romford and Upminster are popular with buyers moving out from inner London, so foam often comes up during a purchase. An early independent report helps you negotiate with confidence.
Costs in Romford
Removal is priced per m² of sprayed roof slope. One published guide puts London & South East rates at £28–£44 /m² for open-cell and £45–£72 /m² for closed-cell foam. See our cost guide for the full breakdown and sources, and our mortgage guide for what lenders are looking for.
